1st International Symposium on Graduate Research in Science
Dear Colleagues,
We, the Istanbul University Institute of Sciences, are for the first time organizing a symposium for graduate students. Having received the title of "Research University", graduate education in Istanbul University will increase even further in importance as the onus on the University to provide skilled and talented researchers and scientists has been formally codified. There are many foreign students from a very diverse geography in our Institute, along with students from Turkey. Therefore, the symposium will be an international one. We have named the symposium the "1st International Symposium on Graduate Research in Science (ISGRS 2018)." "Entrepreneurship" and "Innovation" will be the theme of this first symposium. The symposium will be held in Istanbul University, 4-6 October 2018, in the beginning of the academic year for the participating students' convenience.
The institute has many major branches and programs in basic science and engineering. Therefore, there are multiple tracks in the symposium covering almost all areas of basic science, engineering and technology. We can list the general headings as follows. Track 1, in basic sciences: Agriculture and Food Sciences, Aquatic Sciences, Architecture, Astronomy and Space Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Designing, Environmental Sciences, Forestry Sciences,Landscape Architecture, Informatics, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Maritime Transportation and Management, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Nano-science and Physics. Track 2, in engineering: Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical and Electronics, Engineering Sciences, Geological, Geophysical, Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical and Materials, Mining and Nano-engineering. Track 3, in technology: Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Technology Transfer, Patenting, Start-ups and others.
Last year, about 300 Master and Ph.D. students graduated from our Institute. Some of their theses have been published in SCI journals. Some were presented as talks and posters at international gatherings. This symposium aims to encourage the publication of their unpublished dissertations. In addition, the symposium aims to bring students from relevant areas together to disseminate their knowledge and experience for future research. We will continue to organize symposiums with new themes in the coming years for beginners at the thesis level.
Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee. Selected abstracts may be assigned oral or poster presentations. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Symposium Abstracts Book. Their full texts will also be published in various faculty journals of Istanbul University.
We are pleased to invite you to the ISGRS2018 Symposium which will be held in the enchanting atmosphere of Istanbul and the impressive setting of the historical Istanbul University, which dates back half a millennium. We would like to extend our call to students of master's and doctorate programs, and doctoral researchers together with their advisors. This symposium will offer attendants an opportunity to introduce their thesis studies to their peers. On Saturday, 6 October 2018, we will bid farewell to the Symposium attendees with an exciting and memorable social event.
