Intelligent Transportation Systems Program

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Postgraduate Programs preparedby Istanbul University Faculty of Transport and Logistics jointly with Engineering Faculties are the first postgraduate programs of ITS in Turkey. Intelligent Transportation Systems, which is among the priority areas in Turkey’s 2023 vision, has recently become the focus of attention of many companies and institutions in the country. The preparatory and application processes were started and carried out under the leadership of the Faculty of Transport and Logistics and have been completed with the approval of the Council of Higher Education as of January 2018. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Postgraduate Programs started to receive their first applications in the 2018-2019 Fall Semester Academic Year. It is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programs carried out jointly with the Faculty of Transport and Logistics, Computer, Electrical Electronics, Civil, and Marine Transportation Engineering and will be a pioneer in training the necessary academic staff for Turkey.

​ErgünEroğlu is a Professor in Department of Quantitative Techniques in School of Business at Istanbul University. He obtained his first degree, BSc, electrical engineering in Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul and attended to Istanbul University, Institute of Social Science, Istanbul for his PhD and Master studies. His main research areas include mathematics, optimization, nonlinear programming, logistical modelling, simulation, operations research and statistics.

Professor Dr. Mehmet Adak is the Head of the Division of Transportation, located in Istanbul University, Faculty of Transport and Logistics, Department of Transport and Logistics. He received his undergraduate degree from Uludag University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics. He received his Master's Degree from Fatih University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Economics by defending his thesis titled “Human Capital and Economic Growth: The Case of Turkey”. He received his Ph.D. degree from Marmara University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Economic Theory, by defending his thesis named "R&D and Economic Growth". His main research interests include endogenous technological growth models, macroeconomic simulation systems, and economic optimal control structures.​

​BurcuAdiguzelMercangoz, was born in İstanbul in 1980, She got Associate Professor of Quantitative Methods degree in May, 2018 from Inter-University Council in Turkey. She is a graduate of the Business Administration from Istanbul University. Then, Dr. A. Mercangoz began her master studies in Quantitative Methods in the Institute of Social Sciences at Istanbul University in 2003 and has held a master degree with a dissertation of ‘The Effective Usage of Logistics Information Systems in the Logistics Firms’ in 2005. While doing her master, Dr. A. Mercangoz commenced her academic career as a research and teaching assistant for the Faculty of Transportation and Logistics at Istanbul University in 2004. Following her master graduation, Dr. A. Mercangoz began her Ph. D. studies in Quantitative Methods at the same University in 2005. She has held a Ph.D. with a dissertation of ‘Network Models and An Application in Supply Chain Network Optimization’ since 2010. Dr. A. Mercangoz, now she is a faculty member of Istanbul University Faculty of Transportation and Logistics. Her main research interests are optimization, multi-criteria decision making and information systems. Dr. A. Mercangöz speaks English. She is married and has two children.

EbruDemirci is an associate professor and deputy dean in the faculty of Transportation and Logistics, Transportation and Logistics Management department at Istanbul University. She completed her BSc in the faculty of business, business department at Istanbul University in 2002 and she was appointed research assistant in the school of Transportation and Logistics in the same university. She has a MSc (2004) and PhD (2010) degree in Finance at the Istanbul University. Her research focuses on social sciences and humanities, economics, financial economics, management, finance, logistics management, financial markets and investment management.

Born on May, 1st 1977 in Istanbul, Turkey, Dr. Altuntaş holds an associate degree of Computer Programming from The Vocational School of Technical Sciences at Istanbul University in 1994; a bachelor’s degree of Business Administration with honors from The School of Business Administration at the same university in 2002; another one of Management Information Systems with honors from The Open Faculty of Anadolu University in 2019. Following his graduation in 2002, Dr. Altuntaş commenced his academic career as a research and teaching assistant for The School of Transport and Logistics at Istanbul University. Upon receiving a full–tuition waiver from The Miller College of Business at Ball State University located in Indiana, USA, Dr. Altuntaş left Turkey to get an MBA degree with a concentration of entrepreneurship for 2003– 2004 with a project of “The Feasibility Study of ‘Brain’ Software”. Right after coming back to Turkey, Dr. Altuntaş began his Ph. D. studies in Business Management and Organization in The Institute of Social Sciences at Istanbul University in 2004 and has held a Ph. D. with a dissertation of ‘Entrepreneurship – Strategic Management Relationship: A Strategic Entrepreneurship Model’ since 2011. Now, Dr. Altuntaş, with a title of Associate Professor of Management and Strategy, gives courses of Management, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Logistics Management and so on in many institutions, conducts, publishes and reviews research on related areas of interest, and participates in many public and private industrial projects as a consultant.
Dr. Altuntaş speaks English and basic Italian.

Abit BALIN is a faculty member at Istanbul University, Faculty of Transport and Logistics. He completed his undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees in Yıldız Technical University, Department of Industrial Engineering. His main research areas of interest include Decision Making, MCDM, Fuzzy Sets, Forecasting, Operations Research, Project Management, Energy Management, Maritime Industry.

Mehmet Ali ERTÜRK is an assistant professor in Transportation Department of School of Transportation and Logistics at İstanbul University. He received his BS in Computer Engineering from the Doğuş University, Turkey, then he received his MSc and PhD in Computer Engineering from the Istanbul University, Turkey. His main research interests are mobile communication networks, wireless network protocols, wireless network management and low power wide area networks.​

​TurkayÖzdemir is a lecturer at Istanbul University, Faculty of Transportation and Logistics. He gained his Bsc-Law at Istanbul University. Then he received his LLM degree from Edinburgh University-Law Faculty, Postgraduate Studies. He has got Private Law-PhD degree from İstanbul University. His main profession includes lagal issues of logistics operations, carriage, stoawage and such logistics contractacs. Especially he has many works about liabilities of carriers and transport operators accordingly with modes of carriage in international and national logistics operations.
