Hydrobiology

Hydrobiology Program

Hydrobiology is a science that studies life in inland waters and seas by including with their interactions with the environment, and by associating the taxonomy, biology, ecology, phylogeny, and biodiversity of living things with the physical and chemical components of water. The hydrobiology program has been mainly focused on inland water and marine research to a better understanding of phytoplankton, zooplankton, micro and macroinvertebrates, fish life processes, protection of biodiversity and ensure its sustainability. The hydrobiology program has been conducting MSc and Ph.D. degrees on the issues of animal morphology, systematic and biological diversity, benthic invertebrate ecology and pollution, plankton ecology, systematics, and population dynamics. The hydrobiology program conducts basic and applied research related to water quality, phytoplankton, zooplankton, plankton culture, vertebrates and benthic invertebrates, fishes and supports the research of graduate and doctoral students working on these subjects with its laboratory infrastructure.
