Fisheries Technology and Management

Fisheries Technology and Management Program
The Fisheries Technology and Management program carries out Master and PhD theses in the fields of fisheries and fisheries technology development and management. Various studies such as fishing techniques used in marine and inland waters, production techniques of fishing gears, standardization of fishing gears, fishing vessels and equipment, fishery biology and fisheries management are performed in the Program of Fisheries Technology and Management. In addition to this, in light of the data obtained from the scientific studies carried out, it is aimed to reveal the scientific determinations and new approaches needed by the fisheries management authority with decision making processes of fishing technologies.

Prof. Dr. F. Saadet KARAKULAK



- F. Saadet KARAKULAK is a Professor in the Department of Fisheries Technology and Management, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, İstanbul University. She obtained her first degree BSc, MSc and PhD from the İstanbul University. Her main research fields include fisheries biology, population dynamics, highly migratory pelagic fish, fishing gear selectivity and fisheries management.

Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ekrem KAHRAMAN



- Abdullah Ekrem KAHRAMAN is a Professor in the Department of Fisheries Technology and Management, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, İstanbul University. In 1990, he obtained his first degree, BSc, from the Faculty of Fisheries, İstanbul University, and then he attended to İstanbul University, Institute of Science, for his MSc and PhD studies. His main research interests include fish reproductive biology, fisheries management, ecosystem approach to fisheries, Turkey-EU relations in terms of fisheries, fish stock assessment, and fishing gear selectivity.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomris DENİZ

- Tomris DENİZ is an Associate Professor and lecturer in the Department of Fisheries Technology and Management, in Fisheries and Seafood Processing Technology, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, , at Istanbul University. She graduated from Faculty of Fisheries, Istanbul University. She received her MSc and PhD in Fisheries Technology from Istanbul University. Her main fields of interests are fisheries, fisheries technology, fisheries management, fishing gears, gear selectivity, small scale fisheries and fisheries biology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Didem Göktürk



- DidemGöktürk received her B.S. degree from Istanbul University, Faculty of Fisheries in Department of Basic Sciences in 2001. She has also associate degree from Marmara University, Department of Aquatic Products (1997) and Department of Laboratory and Veterinary Assistance Services, Anadolu University (2012). She earned her M.Sc. (2005) in Department of Marine Biology and Ph.D. degrees (2012) in Fisheries Technology from Istanbul University. She is currently working as Assoc. Prof. Dr. for the Department of Fisheries Technology and Management, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences in Istanbul University. She has carried out as a project leader entitled “Illuminating Hidden Harvests: Case study on small-scale fisheries in Turkey” project supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). She has also PADI Dive Master Certificate (Professional Association of Diving Instructors, 2009, UK). Her research interest is mainly concentrated on fisheries, fisheries management, small scale fisheries, fisheries biology, marine biodiversity and marine ecology.

Asst. Prof. Dr. TuğrulZahit ALIÇLI



- TuğrulZahitAlıçlı is an assistant professor in in the Department of Fisheries Technology and Management, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, İstanbul University. He obtained his BSc degree in Faculty of Fisheries, İstanbul University. He attended to Istanbul University, Institute of Sciences for MSc and PhD. His main research areas include recreational fishery, small scale fisheries and its socio-economic structure, fisheries management, billfishes, invertebrate fisheries.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Benal GÜL



- Dr. Benal GÜL is an Assistant Professor in The Fisheries Technology And Management Programme of Fisheries and Seafood Processing Technology Department at Istanbul University Faculty of Aquatic Science. She obtained her BSc in Ege University Faculty Of Fisheries and obtained MSc and PHD degree in Ege University Fisheries Programme of Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Izmir. Her main research areas include the artificial reefs related with fisheries management, fisheries and aquatic telemetry.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Taner YILDIZ



- Dr. Taner YILDIZ is an Asst. Professor in the Department of Fisheries Technology and Management, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, İstanbul University. He obtained his BSc, MSc, and PhD in Istanbul University. His current research focuses on fisheries management using multiple tools include effects of fishing on the fish stocks and life-history of fish species.
