History

Istanbul University, Institute of Sciences was established in order to provide graduate education for science and engineering in 1982.  In 1983 and 1984, our institution consisted of Mathematics, Physhics, Astronomy and Space Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geophysics Engineering, Forest Engineering and Forest Industry Engineering departmants.  Today our institution has Aquacultural Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Sciences Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Electrical Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Navigation and Management Engineering, Ecological Sceinces, Defense Technologies, Biomedical Engineering, Aquacultural Basic Sciences, Fisheries and Seafood Processing Technology, Aquaculture, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Informatics and Elementary Education departments.  Furthermore, non-thesis master’s degree in Physics Teaching, Chemistry Teaching, Mathematics Teaching and Biology Teaching was opened to higher education in 2000.  Education is carried out in the Faculties of Engineering, Sciences, Forestry, Fisheries and Hasan Ali Yücel Faculty of Education, respectively. Institute of Sciences contains 32 M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in order to contribute to science and technology by training exploratory and academic staff.
